Engagement photos at Mount Royal Park
When I first met with Elizabeth and Arold to plan their wedding photos, they mentioned they liked the vibe of photos taken in nature, with trees and lots of greenery. With this in mind, we planned to do their engagement photos at Mount Royal Park — an oasis of nature in the middle of Montreal.
When we were brainstorming ideas for Elizabeth and Arold’s engagement photo session, they also mentioned that they would love to include the newest members of their family, their kittens! They named their cats Kirikou and Kitana after characters in an African movie and a manga. I was so on board!
Including pets in your photo session
Whether we’re shooting a family or couple photo session together, I know your pets are an important part of your lives. If we can figure out a way to include them for part of your photo session, it helps capture meaningful memories! We can include your cats or other creatures by doing a part of the session at home, or involve your dog by bringing them along during part of the shoot.
Starting off the engagement photos at home
We started Elizabeth and Arold’s engagement photo session in their home, getting some natural images of this couple in their most comfortable environment. I photographed them as they celebrated their engagement by popping some champagne. They played with their kittens, bribing them with a few treats so they’d join them on the couch. Then they cuddled together for some relaxing engagement photos at home.
Engagement photos at Mount Royal Park
For the second part of this engagement session, we drove to Mount Royal Park for engagement photos in nature, to enjoy the summer and wander among the trees.
Elizabeth and Arold’s wedding videographer, Mathias Lucien from Soulshine Films, joined us during the engagement session to get some video footage.
It was my first time working together with a videographer during the engagement photo session, but it was a fun addition! It was also useful to meet him and get a sense of his style before the wedding, since we hadn’t worked together previously.
Dancers at heart
Elizabeth and Arold met while dancing zouk at Haitian dance nights.
And they couldn’t stop sprinkling some dance moves throughout their engagement photo session… From spins and turns on a hilltop to gentle steps through some leftover puddles!
It led to some beautiful dancing photos!
Engagement photos with A view of the city
We spent some time near Beaver Lake, then walked along the path through the woods to the Chalet Mont-Royal. This is one of the best places in Montreal to take photos with the city skyline.
This engagement photo session was a great way to get to know this sweet and enthusiastic couple. It also gave them a chance to get comfortable taking photos before their actual wedding day.
