An emotional proposal in the Flowery Brook garden
Sully wrote to me as he was planning a trip to Montreal with his partner Brandy. He thought the Montreal Botanical Gardens were absolutely gorgeous and would make the perfect backdrop for his surprise proposal.
“I really just want to capture the most beautiful moment that I can. She’s the absolute love of my life, and I would love to have your help photographing my proposal to her.”
Choosing the right location
There are a ton of beautiful areas in the Montreal Botanical Gardens (for tips, you can check out my post with more details about the best locations to propose at the Montreal Botanical Garden). Sully and I decided to go for the Flowery Brook garden as the location for his proposal. This garden is more wide open and natural with wandering flower beds, trees and a little brook. The space feels less formal and more like a countryside garden (it reminds me so much of Anne of Green Gables). Because there’s additional space, it’s also easier to get a great angle for photos.
The emotional proposal moments captured
When Sully and Brandy arrived at the Flowery Brook garden, I was already there with my cameras out “taking pictures of the garden”. As they wandered around, Sully found a spot under a tree that he thought was beautiful. He told Brandy he wanted to take a picture of her. He set their bags down at the foot of the tree and took out his phone (meanwhile, also taking out the ring box). With the ring box behind his back, he reached out and held her hand while starting to propose.
Finally, as Sully dropped to one knee to ask her to marry him, Brandy also sank to the ground to get closer to him. The couple shared an emotional moment together with some tears, laughter and kisses.

After the proposal, Sully pointed out that he had booked a photographer to capture the moment!
During the rest of their time in the gardens, Sully couldn’t wait to tell Brandy about all the planning and stories that happened during the time that he had to keep secrets from her for months. They were sharing so many laughs and excitement together. I’m always happy to document these types of candid memories for people.

We took some time to wander around the different areas of the Botanical Gardens to get some relaxed engagement portraits. It was so fun to get to know this lovely couple and capture their joy and love.
